Revolutionize at home pizza night with this cast iron skillet pizza!
The most crispy, crunchy crust that is developed through high heat and is the best homemade pizza I’ve ever made...seriously could become a Friyay night MUST HAVE!
What you need:
4 oz pizza dough (store bought frozen works - if your local - Tiseos is the best!)
6 oz pizza sauce
3/4 cup mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
2 Tablespoons oil
1/2 tsp dried oregano or pizza spices
salt and pepper
TOPPINGS:
1 Tablespoon fresh basil, chopped
red pepper flakes
Optional topping of your choice....
Lately I carmelize onions & saute mushrooms - then add to the pizza before the cheese...
What you'll do:
Shape pizza: Cut dough ball in half, use hands to press out dough into even circle. Form into 10×10-inch circle (unless your skillet measurements are different).
Place skillet on stove-top at Medium High heat and allow to preheat - then add a good drizzle of oil to the pan and sprinkle in oregano, salt and pepper.
Assemble pizza in hot skillet: Tip: before you heat skillet, make sure your pizza shapes are prepared and toppings are ready!
Add the toppings: Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce while leaving room for crust to form (you do not need to form crust – it rises on it's own). Add the additional toppings of your choice - then sprinkle a generous amount of mozzarella & parmesan cheese overtop. leave on stovetop no longer than 7 minutes....stat!
Bake pizza: Bake uncovered for 14-16 minutes – cheese should be bubbling, browned, and crust should be golden brown.
When pizza is finished, use a utensil to carefully slide pizza from skillet onto a cutting board. Top with fresh basil and red pepper flakes if desired.
Repeat baking process with additional dough to make second pizza or use 2 pans at a time. I have found the pizza to get crispier as the baking process continues and the pan gets even hotter.
Enjoy!
